Our Story

A Place of Hope and Healing

The City of Refuge Christian Church is more than just a place of worship — we are a family. Founded on the belief that everyone deserves a safe place to find God, our doors are open to all who seek hope, healing, and community.

Our mission is inspired by the parable of the five wise virgins in Matthew 25:4 — to be prepared, faithful, and ready for the Lord's return. We strive to equip every member of our congregation with the knowledge, faith, and love needed to live a purpose-driven life.

Whether you're blessed, stressed, or your life's a mess, you have a right to be free at City of Refuge. We welcome all races, all cultures, and all walks of life into our church family.

"For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst."

— Matthew 18:20
Our Faith

We Believe

The core tenets of our faith guide everything we do.

The Word of God

We believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness.

2 Timothy 3:16

The Holy Trinity

We believe in one God who eternally exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness."

Genesis 1:26

The Deity of Christ

We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ — His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His atoning death, His bodily resurrection, and His ascension to the right hand of the Father.

John 1:1, 14

Our Pastor

Michael Pirtle

Senior Pastor & Founder

Pastor Michael Pirtle founded The City of Refuge Christian Church with a vision to create a place where everyone — regardless of their background, race, or past — could find hope, healing, and a path to freedom in Christ.

Under his leadership, City of Refuge has grown into a vibrant, multi-cultural ministry that extends far beyond Sunday services. Through Liberty House Recovery Cafe, Emma's House, the Christian Academy, and numerous community outreach programs, Pastor Pirtle has built a church that truly lives its mission every day of the week.

"We don't just talk about faith — we live it. Every ministry, every outreach, every service is an opportunity to show God's love to someone who needs it."

— Pastor Michael Pirtle
